Pramac Generac Australia Moto GP Phillip Island

Having lost Saturday’s quali to the wind conditions, the scene was set for a busy Sunday morning schedule.

No surprises considering his form over the mixed condition days, it was @maverick12official on pole. Outstanding was @FabioQuartararo20 in 2nd, who had sustained a sprained left ankle in a nasty high side, and was only able to move around the paddock on crutches. 3rd to complete the front row had @marcmarquez93lurking. A special mention of course to @valeyellow46fourth on the grid in his 400th race!

Leading into the first corner was our 400 man Rossi, much to the delight of his ever-present fans. Then disaster, as a wide positioned Quartararo was taken out by Danilo Petrucci, not Petrucci’s bike but a body check on Fabio’s rear wheel by the man in red, had Fabio skittled into the dirt. Funny that we thought Petrucci has been on a diet!

Seventeen to go and Maverick took the lead with Marquez barging past @calcrutchlow to follow Vinales knowing he could not let him get away, with the pace that the Top Gun man had shown all weekend.

Eleven laps to go and this race became a bit of a procession, Vinales leading with Marquez, then Crutchlow and Rossi. In recent races Marc has taken on the role of the stalker, an unnerving shadowy figure waiting in the wings ready to pounce on whoever dares to take “his” position, that is, the lead.

Plenty of action in what had become the “next group” with Rossi leading this pack until he slipped back, you have to wonder why this happens, but it does.

Three laps to go it was Vinales, Marquez, Crutchlow and Miller, the Aussie having a good home race.

Last lap and Marc had done his lurking and used the Honda power to pull alongside Vinales and overtake him. Maverick took the fight to Marc, and threw everything at it, sadly a bit too much as he opened the throttle early and the rear came round, punting him off into the dirty stuff.

So it was World Champion Marc Marquez 1st, Cal Crutchlow 2nd and Jack Miller 3rd
