Quali turned out well for John McPhee in tricky conditions and put it on pole. So the line up looked like this 1. John McPhee 2. Raul Fernandez 3. Celestino Vietti.

The Race:

The track was dry but cold, not that you would have noticed as the Moto 3 pack, shot off the grid and into the first corner. Lap 1 saw Celestino Vietti take the lead with Alonso Lopez and Raul Fernandez in close pursuit. Pole man McPhee with a poor start found himself swamped and down in ninth.

Lopez and Celestino Vietti were mixing it up when Vietti high-sided taking Lopez out but somehow managed to get re-started himself. Soon it was apparent that Arenas had suffered damage to his bike in the incident and this would later unfold into some drama.

The crash left twenty year-old Raul Fernandez in command with Ai Ogura and Riccardo Rossi tucked in behind. Arenas pitted, his championship lead now in danger.

Lap five saw John McPhee hit the deck and out of the race, whilst Fernandez maintained his lead with Tony Arbolino and Darryn Binder hanging on to his tailpipes, then Sergio Garcia and Ai Ogura taking 3rd and 4th.

Fourteen laps to go and the winner of the two Aragon races Jaume Masia crashed out, his championship status now gone.

Albert Arenas, two laps behind, was making a nuisance of himself, getting in the way of riders who were actually in the race, so the black flag went out for him and eventually, he pulled into the pits.

Seven laps to go and it was the status quo of Raul Fernandez, Tony Arbolino and now Ai Ogura in third. These three amigos (or not) maintained their positions right up to two laps to go.

Last lap and Garcia went under Arbolino to take 2nd, and then Ai Ogura did the same.

Over the line, it was #1 Raul Fernandez Red Bull KTM Ajo | #2 Sergio Garcia Estrella Galicia 0.0 | #3 Ai Ogura Honda Team Asia.

A well deserved first win in the Moto 3 class for 20-year-old Raul Fernandez.
