A no surprises grid from Quali with @fabioquartararo20on pole, @MarcMarquez93 second and @jackmillerausthird. So many poles for fabulous Fabio this year, his season has been nothing but sensational, and this last chance to get that elusive win.

Jack Miller had a flying start, but Fabio Quartararo, knowing he had to take the lead if he was to set a rhythm for this race, sliced past him and put himself where he needed to be. Lap 1 and it was Quartararo, Miller and @AlexRins at the front, Rins getting a great start from the third row.

Soon though Marc Marquez pushed into third, chasing Jack Miller who he must have seen as in his way for his main target Fabio, and not long, as expected Marquez was in second and pursuing his nemesis, the ultra-smooth Fabio Quartararo.

Twenty laps to go and Fabio must have thought, “not again”, as Marquez squeezed him out to the edge of the track to take the lead. Fabio, as with the whole season, did not make it easy for Marc, but the world champion is that for a reason, and the “rookie” Quartararo has much to learn and is doing so very quickly. With the race pace settled, Jack Miller tried hard to pull in Quartararo, but could not match the “smooth as butter” riding style that Fabio has attributed to the influence of the newly retiring multiple world champion, Jorge Lorenzo.

Fourteen laps to go and it all got nasty again. Firstly @petrux9went down and then just as we took that on board, it was @johannzarcoin the gravel, but worse to come, as Marco got to his feet, @ikerlecuona_27slid out and his bike hit Zarco on his ankles, making him do an involuntary backflip. This was all on the same corner, surely track conditions caused this, think back to the Moto3 oil spilling Canet.

After the unwanted crashes and retirements, the race took on a calm and steady pace, with Marc Marquez, Fabio Quartararo and Jack Miller the leading pack.

At the flag, it was as above, a predictable finish for this race from quite early on.

So this was the end to the season, the off-track big news, of course, that five times world champion Jorge Lorenzo has retired. Much respect to Jorge and the way he announced his retirement, which was pure class.

Let’s not forget that this season has been a sensation for a particular reason, and that is Fabio Quartararo, the “rookie”. Joining the Petronas Sepang International team for the 2019 season, many (not us) said he should not be there. Oh, dear, naysayers, hope you’re getting the humble pie ready, this new team, with it’s new (but previously junior world champion) rider have lit up the Moto GP paddock. Roll on 2020…
