Spoiler alert! Let’s face it the @MotoGP race at the Chang circuit Burriam was not the most scintillating. However it was fascinating, and one of those where you were on the edge of your seat.

Quali had set it up, with @fabioquartararo20 on pole (his fourth of his “rookie” season) @maverick12official pipping Marc Marquez to go P2. After Marquez’s huge crash on Friday which both destroyed his Honda and had him hospitalised, was there a chink in the armour of the seven times World Champion? Marc has had it his own way for some time, but Fabulous Fabio is putting on the pressure, and a resurgent Maverick Vinales adding to this with consistent results.
Race time had Fabio blast away from the grid, any early season nerves far away now, and Vinales the previous poor starter showing he is tackling his demons, with a sure start. Of course, Marc is never far away and with the Honda clearly the quicker bike over the Yamahas, it settled into Fabio first with Marc second and Top Gun Maverick third.

We remember Misano and how Fabio leading, was under pressure from Marc, lap after lap, and so it was happening again, but Fabio has been through the wringer and under the sweltering conditions at the Chang circuit, Fabio looked less nervous and very in control. Lap after lap, Fabio, metronomic, putting in 1.31.0 lap times, with his smooth, high corner-speed style. This relentless riding style is making Marquez work to keep up, and soon when Fabio learns the tricks of the corner fighting which Marquez is so good at, he will be the danger man, and Marc knows it.

Behind the new Aliens, we had the consistent runners of Maverick Vinales and Andrea Dovizioso, not close and not racing but they’re all the same.

Two laps to go and Marquez showed his hand, hounding Fabio, using the extra speed and explosive acceleration of the Honda to full effect. Last lap and Marquez pulled ahead, making a gap, but somehow Fabulous Fabio undercut Marquez to take the lead once again, this was the edge of the seat stuff. Last corner with a very short squirt to the finish line, Marc just undercut Fabio and took the win. Fabio was distraught, he had done everything but still lost it on the final run, but as he said in a post-race interview “it’s coming soon”, we know that.

So Marc Marquez vanquished Dovi and at the first flyaway race has taken the World Championship, his eighth (six in the MotoGP class). The celebrations with the pool table and eight ball, were as entertaining as ever. In parc ferme, amongst his celebrations, Marc took time to give Fabio a hug, and to his credit, he is like that win or lose. The 2019 World Champion in Moto GP, Marquez, stated after the race, that 2020 might not be so easy, for not easy read Fabio Quartararo.
