Quali had two Ducatis on the front row with Francesco Bagnaia on pole and Jack Miller P2. Fabio Quartararo was P3, with the Yamaha or him not suited to Aragon, or maybe both!

The Race:

The Ducati of Pecco Bagnaia shot away from the start line but was soon pursued by a feisty looking Marc Marquez in P2 behind him Jack Miller P3. World championship leading Fabio Quartararo had his front wheel bouncing off the start and this was reflected by a P6 slot as the race settled into the first lap.

Twenty-two laps to go and Jake Dixon crashed out in his second outing on the Petronas Yamaha, which was unfortunate, as he was trying to prove he deserves the ride in 2022 against the competition, perhaps trying too hard, but he had to give it a go. Meanwhile, Francesco Bagnaia was leading Marc Marquez, but Marc was keeping him honest and not letting him pull away as he was being chased by Jack Miller. For ten laps the positions remained the same until with 12 laps to go Joan Mir on the Suzuki took Aleix Espargaro on the Aprilia for P3.

Two laps to go and you could throw a blanket over Bagnaia and Marquez as they tussled their bikes around the twisty, undulating Aragon circuit, Joan Mir a distant P3. At one point Marc shot past Pecco on the undercut, only for Bagnaia to slingshot his way past Marquez for the lead once more. The last lap was “edge of the seat” stuff as the two riders swapped back and forth for the lead, until one last attempt by Marc to overtake saw him over track limits and that was it, as the rule is if you leave track limits on the last lap it can be a penalty. Francesco Bagnaia took his first win in the MotoGP class and Marc Marquez was the first to stop and congratulate him, such is the respect that these two have for each other and racing motorcycles.

The Result:

Francesco Bagnaia, Ducati Lenovo Team, P1. Marc Marquez, Repsol Honda Team, P2. Joan Mir, Team Suzuki Ecstar, P3.

Aragon put up some superlative racing across all the classes and MotoGP was the most exciting.
