Quali had Sam Lowes on pole, Remy Gardner P2 and Raul Fernandez P3, once again, the Red Bull boys were up at the sharp end. Raul had a fracture in his right hand from a bicycle training accident, and there was much speculation about his fitness, however, his P3 showed how determined he was to make a go of it. The race would tell.

The Race:

Sam Lowes made a flying start (previously his nemesis) and led Raul Fernandez and Remy Gardner into the first corner and the first lap, by a gap of 0.633 of a second. Not wanting to let Sam get away, Raul followed by Remy were soon on to Lowes. And by lap two had reduced the gap to 0.345.

Two laps in and eighteen to go and Raul Fernandez shot past Lowes into the lead with his teammate Remy Gardner tucked into Lowes in P3. With Ai Ogura P4, then taking Gardner to take P3, Augusto Fernandez was P13 at this stage, watch this space. Remy was not taking this for too long and overtook Ai and Hector Garzo to take back P3. Meanwhile, Raul was at the front and pulling a gap over Lowes.

Raul Fernandez was looking sublime, with consistent lap times and maintaining a healthy gap between him and Sam Lowes in P2, Remy three seconds behind Lowes in P3. The positions remained the same, until with 9 laps to go Sam Lowes crashed out whilst trying to hunt down Raul Fernandez, the task proving too much on this occasion. That left Raul with a six second lead over his teammate Gardner and Aron Canet in P3. Augusto Fernandez was now in P5.

On the last lap, Raul Fernandez had a seven second lead over Remy and Augusto Fernandez in P3, who you will remember had made his way up from P13. This was an outstanding race for Raul, who it is easy to forget is still a rookie in this class, but by name only, as he took the win, and did much to help his championship position.

The Result:

Raul Fernandez, Red Bull KTM Ajo, Kalex, P1. Remy Gardner, Red Bull KTM Ajo, Kalex, P2. Augusto Fernandez, Elf Marc VDS Racing Team, Kalex, P3.

There were a total of eleven riders who did not finish this race, a high rate of attrition by any standard. Perhaps the nerves are jangling as we move towards the end of the season.
