The lineup from quali was not the usual suspects, so it was Darryn Binder on pole, Gabriel Rodriguez, P2 and Tatsuki Suzuki P3.

The Race:

Darryn Binder was first off the line and into the first corner of the first lap with Andrea Migno, Sergio Garcia and Gabriel Rodrigo all in the mix. By lap 2 it was all change with Rodrigo leading a very tight pack of feisty Moto3 riders, and Garcia and Binder trying to hang on.

It did not take Deniz Oncu long to show once again just how fast and punchy a rider he is and by lap 4 with 16 to go he was in the lead, with Binder and Migno tucked in with him. With 15 laps to go Oncu was joined by the championship leader Pedro Acosta who had made his way up from a lowly grid position to P2, not that grid positions seem to matter to him, as he has shown in his sensational wins, even from pit lane! Filip Salac low-sided out, his race over and causing sector 3 yellow flags for a short period.

Twelve laps to go and Deniz Oncu continued in the lead with Sergio Garcia and Xavier Artigas P2 and P3 and close to the Turkish rider. Pedro Acosta was P5 and looking a bit unsettled and taking perhaps too many risks to protect his championship lead, and notably Izan Guevara, the rookie and Junior world champion, often overshadowed by Acosta had made his way to P8 from P14 in a few laps and was consistently setting fastest laps, then he was soon P4.

Apart from a brief foray from Artigas with nine laps to go, Deniz Oncu held the lead and started to gap the group behind him, which, was now Sergio Garcia Xavier Artigas, Dennis Foggia. With four laps to go, Pedro Acosta tried to undertake Artigas, however losing the rear end he took himself and the luckless Xavier out of the race, and damage to his championship lead with Sergio Garcia his closest rival in a solid P3. So now it was Deniz Oncu with a slight lead over Dennis Foggia P2 and Garcia P3, with three laps to go.

Two laps to go, and Dennis Foggia slipped past Oncu for the lead, with Sergio Garcia now in P2, Oncu P3. Having led most of the race, Denis was not going to let Foggia take it at this late stage, he pushed past to take the lead once again and started to gap. Suddenly there was a crash, it was Sergio Garcia hitting the deck from P3 and down, his championship points now negated, unlucky for him but lucky for a relieved Acosta, who despite his own mistake maintains his 46 point lead over Garcia.

Meanwhile, the fight was on with Dennis Foggia pulling back into the lead over Oncu, a last gasp attempt to take the win which he did, with Ayumu Sasaki P3 and a very strong P4 for Izan Guevara.

The Result:

Dennis Foggia, Leopard Racing P1. Deniz Oncu, Red Bull KTM Tech3, P2. Ayumu Sasaki Red Bull KTM Tech 3, P3. Deniz deserved the win, but as is often said, that’s motor racing.
