Having hosted the MotoGP races just two weeks ago, it was now the turn of the BSB paddock to take up the challenge at Silverstone, this time on the National Circuit.

Bikesocial Race One:

It was a familiar grid for race one, with Jason O’Halloran on pole, McAMS Yamaha team mate Tarran Mackenzie P2 and Tommy Bridewell, Oxford Products Racing Ducati P3.

The Race:

Lap 1 was Tommy Bridewell at the front with Gino Rea P2 and Tarran Mackenzie P3. It was all a bit hurried and close on the first lap, and soon the situation was out of hand, and then there was a crash fest, with riders going down like there was a sniper in the crowd. One of the first fallers was Peter Hickman, FHO Racing BMW, on his own, but soon there were other incidents, and Danny Buchan, Ryan Vickers, Takumi Takahashi and Bjorn Estment were all down, with only Estment recovering to re-start. Yellow flags and then the safety car was deployed, with the remaining riders having to circulate whilst the carnage was cleared up.

On lap 6 the safety car sliced into the pit lane and the race was back on, with Jason O’Halloran soon in the lead, with Tommy Bridewell and Glenn Irwin in close quarters. On lap nine Lee Jackson, FS-3 Racing Kawasaki pulled up with a mechanical problem and was out of the race. It was not until lap 16 of 24 that there was a change in the top three, with O’Halloran still P1 followed by Glenn Irwin P2 and now Christian Iddon, P3 and Tarran Mackenzie P4, as Mackenzie slotted into P3.

On lap 21, Tarran Mackenzie moved to P2 behind McAMS team mate O’Halloran, and it was looking like another one/two for the Yamahas, each way bet. Then disaster, Tarran undercut Jason into Brooklands in what looked like a clean overtake, however as he hit the throttle, the rear kicked out on him. With no room, O’Halloran t-boned Mackenzie’s bike and went straight over the bars, catapulting him into the air and slamming down in the centre of the track, Mackenzie now at the side of the track and dazed. The red flag went out, as Jason was vulnerable and in danger as bikes were avoiding him at 80mph. Both riders were OK if a bit bashed about, and it was Déjà vu as this happened two years ago, when Mackenzie and O’Halloran collided at the final corner, here at Silverstone. This however was a true no blame racing incident.

Results:

Glenn Irwin Honda Racing P1, Christian Iddon, Vision Track Ducati P2, and Tommy Bridewell, Oxford Products Racing Ducati P3.

Race Two:

Sunday. The grid line up was Gino Rea on pole, Tarran Mackenzie P2 and Josh Brookes P3.

The Race:

It was a great launch off the start line for Gino Rea, Buildbase Suzuki, and lap one had Rea in the lead with Tarran Mackenzie P2 and Jason O’Halloran, P3. By lap two Josh Brookes, Vision Track Ducati had seared his way to the front with Gino Rea P2 and Mackenzie P3. By lap 10, the race settled down and it was Josh Brookes in the lead with Bradley Ray, Rich Energy OMG Racing BMW P2 and Christian Iddon, Vision Track Ducati P3.

Having led for most of the race, Josh Brookes found himself being chased by a calculating Tarran Mackenzie and then team mate Jason O’Halloran. On the final lap, Tarran slid past Brookes who had no answer for him, and whilst he was gathering himself, O’Halloran took P2. No dramas in this race, for the comeback boys from McAMS, just a clean one/two

Results:

Tarran Mackenzie, McAMS Yamaha, P1. Jason O’Halloran, McAMS Yamaha, P2 and Josh Brookes, Vision Track Ducati, P3. Rory Skinner, FS-3 Kawasaki finished P9 after a solid P7 in race one.

Race three:

The grid top three were, Josh Brookes, Vision Track Ducati, Tommy Bridewell, Oxford Products Racing Ducati and Jason O’Halloran, McAMS Yamaha.

The Race:

This became a race of two parts with a red flag at lap 12 with Luke Stapleford’s Buildbase Suzuki blowing oil all over the track. At that point, it was still Josh Brookes P1, Tommy Bridewell P2 and Jason O’Halloran P3.

With a quick re-start and only 15 laps to go, we had a sprint race on our hands with the grid as above. Josh Brookes got a great start along with Tommy Bridewell and Gino Rea.

Lap eight saw O’Halloran in the lead and now joined by team mate Tarran Mackenzie, with Josh Brookes now demoted to P3. That was how it stayed, with the McAMS Yamaha team consolidating their weekend after the disaster that was race one.

The Results:

Jason O’Halloran, McAMS Yamaha P1, Tarran Mackenzie, McAMS Yamaha P2 and Josh Brookes, Vision Track Ducati P3.

The top eight for the “showdown” starting next time out at Oulton Park will be 1. Jason O’Halloran. 2, Tarran Mackenzie. 3, Tommy Bridewell. 4, Christian Iddon. 5, Peter Hickman. 6, Glenn Irwin. 7, Danny Buchan. 8, Josh Brookes.
