Quail turned up the first pole for Ai Ogura, the ever more present young Japanese Honda rider. Joining him on the front row 2. Gabriel Rodrigo 3. Tatsuki Suzuki (who took an emotionally charged win last year on the circuit named after the much missed Marco Simoncelli, the son of Suzukisan’s team owner)

A blistering start saw riders switching back and forth looking for the racing line. After a few corners, it was Tatsuki Suzuki, Ai Ogura and Gabriel Rodrigo heading up the pack of wolves that is Moto 3. First lap action of the kind we don’t want to see, had Celestino Vietti, Raul Fernandez and Sergio Garcia on the deck. Garcia clipped Fernandez who following Newton’s 3rd law of motion then took out Celestino (the winner from Austria!)

20 laps to go and with the race pace settled it was Gabriel Rodrigo in the lead with Tatsuki Suzuki second and Tony Arbolino third. John McPhee at this time was 11th, and championship leader Albert Arenas 9th, Jaume Masia 4th.
Lap 17 saw Darryn Binder up to second, Gabi Rodrigo up ahead of him and Tony Arbolino 3rd. Alonso Lopez and Ayumu Sasaki ended up on the Drudi graphics, both riders out of the race.

10 laps to go, Binder in the lead with Jaume Masia 2nd and Albert Arenas 3rd. Then it was Masia first with his Leopard teammate Dennis Foggia third. Then again, from the lead Binder binned it! (how many times have we said that!) Foggia clipped Binder’s bike, was unseated but somehow managed to gather it together. This left Suzuki, Rodrigo and Masia the first three.

Four laps to go and Jaume Masia in the lead, but Macaulay not home alone with Gabi Rodrigo and John McPhee in close pursuit. Two laps to go, Masia holding station with Tatsuki Suzuki second and McPhee third. Albert Arenas, championship leader planted it into the kitty litter, race over. Denis Oncu down in 16th somehow managed to avoid the flailing Arenas.

The last lap was hold your breath time, with constant first place exchanges. Mc Phee tucked in and looking feisty held the pack behind him to take the win!
