We’re back! Racing resumes after the catastrophe that is Coronavirus, and under the “new normal” the kick-off was to be the Moto 3 boys. They, of course, managed to race at Qatar where Albert Arenas, John McPhee and Ai Ogura enjoyed the pre covid19 podium.

After quali it was Tatsuki Suzuki on pole with Andrea Migno and John McPhee sharing the spoils. 2019 World Moto 3 Champion, Lorenzo Dalla Porta has moved up to Moto 2, we’re looking for a new champion.

The race exploded off the line with Tatsuki Suzuki taking the lead followed by Andrea Migno and Raul Fernandez. John McPhee lagged at the start, not making the best of his P2, but that’s Moto 3 for you. First corner and Dennis Foggia and Carlos Tatay hit the gravel, both not to re-start.

Suzukisan was pulling ahead, but soon the pack caught up and Celestino Vietti took the lead with Tatsuki and Andrea Migno in third, which was a surprise as he had just hit the dirt at the side of the track and saved a nasty tank slapper.

Celestino Vietti did an amazing job of holding off the snarling pack of Moto 3 wolves in the train behind him, until with 12 laps to go Tony Arbolino and Albert Arenas managed to slip by. Then it was Albert Arenas in the lead with Darren Binder Jeremy Alcoba and McPhee who had all come to play.

Arenas held off the ten bikes behind him who were behaving themselves and keeping it tight, with Tony Arbolino and John McPhee tightest to Arenas. Four laps to go and it all started to kick off, the previous calm was forgotten and John McPhee hit the front with Tony Arbolino and Darren Binder next up, with Celestino still in there, but with a track limits warning, and Ai Ogura lurking.

Two laps to go and it was Tony Arbolino John McPhee and Darren Binder, then Binder binned it all by himself in a low side spinning crash! McPhee undercut Arbolino and was looking feisty.

Last lap, McPhee holding station, Tony undercut John McPhee, with leg shaking worthy of a Can-Can dancer, and took the lead. So it was Arbolino, Arenas and McPhee, then in the final sector, approaching the finish Vietti tagged Arbolino who tagged McPhee and down he went. Gutted!

Across the line it was 1, Albert Arenas Gaviota Aspar Team Moto 3 2.Ai Ogura Honda Team Asia and 3. Tony Arbolino Rivacold Snipers Team.

We said John McPhee was feisty and he came and saw but did not conquer this time, more to come and very soon. Ai Ogura had a good race but, it is Albert Arenas who leads the Championship on a full fifty points.
