Enjoying cooler track temperature than the later races would have to suffer for the race, the quail for Moto 3 looked partly familiar, with Tatsuki Suzuki P1 Ai Ogura P2 and Gabriel Rodrigo P3, John McPhee caught up in the melee that is Moto3.

Suzuki and Ogura blasted off the line, with Gabriel Rodrigo then pushing past Ogura for the second slot. Raul Fernandez soon came to play taking four bikes in one swoop, but Suzuki was not to be outdone on this day and took P1 back.

Moto 3 has established itself as the racer’s race, and Jerez 2.0 was no exception, as we soon had the familiar train of bikes with a cat’s whisker between the top ten.

Nineteen to go and it was Suzuki, Rodrigo and Tony Arbolino the top three. Around this time Juame Masia posted the fastest lap and Deniz Oncu was working his way through with some steady riding, with Celestino Vietti languishing in the pack.

Fifteen to go and Andrea Migno and Ayumu Sasaki went down, Sasaki did not make it back to the track, and the race order was now Tatsuki Suzuki, Raul Fernandez and Albert Arenas. Ai Ogura was taken out by Jaume Masia, but Macauly was not being malicious and the stewards deemed it a racing incident, which it was. Some laps later Arenas went down, on his own.

Unusually for Moto 3, the race settled into a regular pace, but there was still very little between the top runners.

Deniz Oncu, race day being his 17th birthday had worked his way to 8th, then down to 10th, riding well, but tagged by another rider, he crashed out with four laps to go. No birthday cake to the instigator!
With three laps to go Susukisan was holding station, Binder 2nd and Gabriel Rodrigo 3rd, but a lurking McPhee soon slid past him for that slot.
Last lap and Suzuki was under pressure but riding a sublime calm race throughout, he held off a charging John McPhee and Celestino Vietti.

1st Tatsuki Suzuki SIC Squadra Corse 2nd John McPhee Petronas Sprinta Racing 3rd. Celestino Vietti SKY Racing Team VR46.
