Qualifying
Quali saw the rising star Raul Fernandez take pole, with Marco Bezzecchi P2 and Joe Roberts on P3.
The Race
The track for the Moto2 race was still very tricky as it had been for Moto3, with damp patches just about everywhere and not much room off the racing line for overtaking, riders moving off the line were taking a risk. Off the start line it was MarcoBezzecchiwho pushed to the front with Raul Fernandez and Joe Roberts playing catch up. Soon we were to see the first of the victims of this damp race with Aron Canet crashing out from a recently gained third spot. This left Bezzecchi P1, Raul Fernandez P2 and Augusto Fernandez P3, but soon Augusto hit the deck and did not re-start, Joe Roberts replacing him in P3.
Four laps in and Alonso Lopez crashed out, and then Sam LowesandXaviViergecrashed out on the same corner, as LorenzoBaldassarriwent wide but recovered, for Sam and Xavi however it was race over. This left MarcoBezzecchiP1, Joe RobertsP2 and Raul Fernandez P3, but within half a lap Roberts slid out at turn 9, with BoBendsneydertaking P3, Remy Gardner now P4. Soon Raul Fernandez went into the lead with Bezzecchi P2 and Bendsneyder P3.
With 18 laps to go FabioDiGiannantonionudged Hector Garzo, punting him off and into the gravel from which he did not recover. From this point in the race, Raul Fernandez was making it his own with metronomic lapping and a 1.229 gap on second placedBezzecchi, BoP3 and Remy P4.FabioDiGiannantoniowas given a long lap penalty for pushing Garzo out of the race, then having hit the white lineDiGihad to go through the long lap again!
The next significant part of the race was when Remy Gardner took advantage of a small mistake byBezzecchiand into P2. Raul Fernandez now had a 1.980 gap on Remy and was riding a sublime well controlled race.
The Result
Over the line, it was P1 Raul Fernandez Red Bull KTM Ajo, P2 Remy Gardner, Red Bull KTM Ajo, P3 MarcoBezzecchi, Sky Racing Team VR46. This race left the Ajo teammates top of the standings with Remy on 89 points and Raul on 88! Moto2 just got interesting.
