Qualifying
Quali looked like this: P1 Remy Gardner Red Bull KTM Ajo/Kalex, P2 Fabio DiGiannantonio Federal Oil Gresini Moto2/Kalex, P3 Marco Bezzecchi Sky Racing Team VR46/Kalex.
The Race
Fabio DiGiannantonio shot away from the start grid with Remy Gardner, Augusto Fernandez and Raul Fernandez in hot pursuit. Fabio had been looking strong all weekend and now was stamping his authority on the race from the get-go.
Two laps in and Raul Fernandez pulled a strong racing move on Augusto to take P3, and shortly after Augusto dropped his bike and it was race over. This left Fabio in an assured P1, with Remy Gardner and now Raul Fernandez following but struggling to stay with a planted Fabio DiGiannantonio.
With DiGi having a comfortable gap of 2.2 seconds, it was the gang of four fighting for places, and this consisted of Raul Fernandez, Marco Bezzecchi, Remy Gardner and Sam Lowes.
The Result
To be honest this was not the most interesting of races. Fabio was settled in P1 and the group behind him swapped around looking for a podium finish. With two laps to go it was still DiGi up ahead with Marco Bezzecchi and Sam Lowes, then Remy Gardner and Raul Fernandez. That is how it finished.
The Gresini Team have had a difficult period with the loss of Fausto Gresini earlier in the year. Fabio DiGiannantonio rode a sublime race, always in control and showing how to lead from start to finish. It was an emotional Parc Ferme when Fabio slotted in behind the number one board, as the team came to terms with this win without Fausto, always mixed feelings in these circumstances, but perhaps the best tonic for a race team to have.
