This weekend at the Barwa Grand Prix of Qatar, Losail, Moto2 has some new guys joining the pack, not new to the paddock, of course, coming from Moto3.
Some have moved on from Moto2, most notably Enea Bastianini, the World Champion and second in the championship Luca Marini.
One rider not making the move is Sam Lowes, and in pre-season, he stamped his authority on the class getting top marks. Riding for Elf Marc VDS Racing Team, this year has to be a good one for Sam, after finishing technically third in the championship, falling foul of some bad luck at the end of the season.
Marco Bezzecchi, Sky Racing Team VR46, is strong once again, and also Remy Gardner on Red Bull KTM Ajo who ended up third in the last test.
Chasing up these guys will be an army of talent, such as Joe Roberts. Then there are the boys from the firework class, Raul Fernandez, Remy’s teammate on Red Bull KTM Ajo, showing why he raised eyebrows in Moto 3. More have followed him up and these guys do not mess around, such as Celestino Vietti and Tony Arbolino, and from America Cameron Baubier, who last raced in the Moto GP paddock in 125’s!
With these new faces on the scene, let’s hope the Moto 2 races are a bit more, well, shall we say close and exciting, as sometimes last year they were a bit lacklustre.
Come Sunday I think we will not be disappointed.
