Bennetts Bikesocial Race One: Saturday.

The grid line-up looked interesting after quali had Gino Rea, Buildbase Suzuki on pole, Danny Buchan SYNETIQ BMW Motorrad on P2 and Glenn Irwin, Honda Racing P3.

The Race:

Conditions were awful as the riders lined up on the grid for the start, rain, a very damp track and strong winds all contributed to a sketchy race one. Gino Rea had a brilliant start, looking confident in the wet, maybe due to a lot of experience as a top-class motocross rider in his junior years. Close by in P2 was Danny Buchan and Josh Brookes in P3, followed by Glen Irwin and Lee Jackson. Buchan soon pulled into the lead, taking Rea with him, but by lap three Gino Rea was P1 again looking planted despite the slippery tarmac under him. Soon though it was obvious that this race could be one of attrition as Peter Hickman slid out, and within moments Glenn Irwin hit the dirt, both riders out but ok. This left Rea P1, Buchan P2 and Brookes P3, soon though Buchan slid out under brakes, the wet track hard to deal with, and then Josh Brookes over running the track and on to the grass, no grip and another victim of the atrocious conditions, down and out, but OK. Next to hit the deck was Tommy Bridewell, and by this time the race was looking ridiculous, and the ‘showdown’ decimated by the conditions.

Lap 6 of 16, saw Gino Rea holding station in the lead, with Lee Jackson P2 and now young Storm Stacey in P3, a creditable performance from the rookie on his Team LKQ Euro Car Parts Kawasaki. By lap 8 Storm had made his way to P2, but on the same lap his luck ran out and he dropped the bike, not to recover the race, but ok. This left Gino Rea in the lead, with Lee Jackson P2 and Christian Iddon.

With a lot of riders now out of the race, those surviving did a great job of keeping their bikes running and upright, and so over the line, it was Gino Rea, Buildbase Suzuki for the win, Kyle Ryde, Rich Energy OMG Racing BMW P2 and Christian Iddon, Vision Track Ducati P3. Showdown leaders, Jason O’Halloran was P5 and Tarran Mackenzie P7.

Bennetts British Superbikes Race 2:

The grid had Gino Rea on pole, Storm Stacey P2 and Josh Brookes, the young rookie finding himself in good company.

The Race:

Sunday was a different day, a sunny day for the race after the terrible conditions on Saturday. Gino Rea had a blazing start on the dry track, but soon it was young Storm Stacey in the lead, what an experience for the eighteen year old, leading a BSB race for the first time. By lap three Rea had stolen Storm’s thunder and taken the lead again, but something looked wrong as Stacey started to drop very quickly down the running order. Josh Brookes was P2 and Karl Ryde P3. Tarran Mackenzie on the silver striped McAMS Yamaha to celebrate McAMS 25th anniversary was down in P10.

Lap fourteen and Storm Stacey had dropped out with a mechanical, as Christian Iddon now lead the race with Danny Buchan P2 and Gino Rea P3, but it was Tarran Mackenzie in P4 who had been making the most progress and was now looking menacing as the race was three quarter distance. Lap after lap Tarran made his way past the riders ahead until on the last lap he took Danny Buchan and held station for the win.

The Results:

Tarran Mackenzie, McAMS Yamaha P1. Danny Buchan, SYNETIQ BMW Motorrad P2, and Christian Iddon, Vision Track Ducati, P3.

Bennetts British Superbikes: Race 3:

Once again, as with Saturday, the heavens opened and this race was in very wet conditions and once again Gino Rea rode a solid race to finish top of the podium, on his Buildbase Suzuki. Christian Iddon took his Vision Track Ducati to P2, and Lee Jackson, P3 on his FS-3 Racing Kawasaki. The young guns of Storm Stacey and Rory Skinner stayed close to each other with Storm P11 and Rory P12.

The conclusion of a difficult race three had Tarran Mackenzie ten points ahead of his teammate and showdown contender Jason O’Halloran, as the paddock de-camps for Brands Hatch in two weeks time, and the last three races to decide the winner of 2021.

A big shout out to Casey O’Gorman and his Microlise Cresswell Team who wrapped up the Honda British Talent Cup Championship at Donington. This young guy broke his arm early season but still managed to have the determination to work hard and take the win. Well done!
