Moto3 – Gran Premio Gryfyn di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini. Misano.

Qualification:

Deniz Oncu took the pole at Misano, following good form in the last two races. Youngster Daniel Holgado took P2 and another young rider, Diogo Moreira was P3.

The Race:

From pole Deniz Oncu made it clear he was going to stay in front as he shot away from the start line and immediately defended his position into the first corner, followed by Izan Guevara from P5 and Diogo Moreira. Within the first corners, Ayumu Sasaki was taken out by Nicola Carraro, a very disappointing start for the winner in Austria, and hard on Ayumu who must have thought his championship was getting better after the last race. Championship leader Sergio Garcia took a shortcut, having been in a tight bunch of riders and risked some sort of penalty, but the stewards decided against that.

A lot had happened in the first lap and by lap two Izan Guevara had eased past Oncu for the lead and Diogo Moreira took advantage for a P2 slot, as did Holgado, leaving Oncu in P4, with a quick looking Dennis Foggia P5. Soon Foggia was in P3, calmly picking off riders and looking very settled. It was getting feisty on track, and Sergio Garcia tagged the back of Deniz Oncu, fortunately with no incident. However, within a few corners, Garcia crashed out, seemingly in too much of a hurry to get things done, he got re-started, but was way down in the order by this time.

Izan Guevara had held station for eight laps, but it looked like Dennis Foggia had a plan, and executed it with fourteen laps to go, and took Guevara for the lead. This left Izan in P2, Daniel Holgado P3, Jaume Masia P4 and Tatsuki Suzuki P5. It was still a tight group of four at the front, but Dennis Foggia looked very planted on his Leopard Racing Honda, with the others keeping him honest.

By the last lap, Dennis Foggia had been holding the lead apart from a very brief moment from Guevara and had done this for fourteen laps. However, it had not been easy as Dennis had Jaume Masia, Deniz Oncu and Izan Guevara so close, any mistake from Foggia, and any of those riders could have pounced and taken the lead. As those following three riders engaged in a scrap, Foggia pulled a slight gap and took the win, his plan had worked, and it was an impressive performance. Masia took P2 with Izan Guevara taking the last podium place from Oncu.

The Result:

P1, Dennis Foggia, Leopard Racing, Honda. P2, Jaume Masia, Red Bull KTM Ajo. P3, Izan Guevara, Gaviota GASGAS Aspar Team.

Sergio Garcia had a black flag for impeding other riders whilst being a lap down. This was a disaster of a race for Garcia, who lost the championship lead to Guevara as a result.
