Qualification:

Quali was a bit of a mix-up, with Jeremy Alcoba on pole, Romano Fenati P2 and Dennis Foggia P3. Before we even got to the race there was a lot of drama, with up to ten riders receiving various penalties, most notably Romano Fenati, who had two long laps dished out to him for an altercation between him and Adrian Fernandez. That started with Fenati getting aggro with Adrian, maintaining he had held him up on track, then ramming the back of Adrian’s Husqvarna (they are teammates!) which then ended up with some pushing and shoving in the box. So after a while of putting a thin veneer over his underlying anger, Fenasti is back, remember he has form for this unacceptable behaviour, twice sacked.

Pedro Acosta, the championship leader, was involved in a nasty pre-race accident which resulted in a bike hitting him and an overnight stay in hospital (eating a takeaway burger!). Declared fit on Sunday he was 18th on the grid at the start of the race.

The Race:

Fenati was quick off the mark and was leading on the first lap, trying to gap Sergio Garcia and Jeremy Alcoba before he had to take the long lap penalties. This did not work out too well as Garcia held on to him and then Dennis Foggia came through to take the lead as Fenati swept through the long lap loop. Three laps in and it was Foggia P1, Xavier Artigas P2 and Sergio Garcia P3.

Eighteen laps to go and it was Sergio Garcia in the lead with Dennis Foggia P2 and Xavier Artigas P3, with a tight pack of riders just behind and chasing them down. Pedro Acosta had made his way up from 18th to 9th, once again showing he has this uncanny ability to make his way through all the chaos that is a moto3 race. Sergio Garcia looked very planted until with 14 laps to go Dennis Foggia pulled a slick move on him and took the lead, unsettling Garcia for a moment and allowing Darryn Binder into P2. Meanwhile, Kaito Toba had a moment causing Niccolo Antonelli and Andrea Migno to crash, Migno unable to restart.

Eight laps to go and it was Dennis Foggia in the lead with Sergio Garcia chasing him down and Romano Fenati in P3. The luckless Adrian Fernandez crashed, his bike running away from him and not able to restart. It was still a tight pack of seven riders at the front with Pedro Acosta now in 6th. Three laps to go and Dennis Foggia was holding station in the lead with Darryn Binder now in P2 and Sergio Garcia P3.

The Result

On the last lap, it was Dennis Foggia showing again his long game and controlling the race, and so over the line, it was Dennis Foggia, Leopard Racing, P2 Sergio Garcia Gaviota GASGAS Aspar Team and P3 Romano Fenati Sterilgarda Max Racing Team. Pedro Acosta came in a very impressive fourth, holding a strong first position in the Championship as we break for the Summer.
