Qualifying:

Quali had Romano Fenati on pole, Tatsuki Suzuki P2 and Jeremy Alcoba P3. Pedro Acosta, the championship leader was P7, not that lower quali positions usually bother him.

The Race:

Romano Fenati blasted away at the start, but the other riders from rows one and two were determined to stay with him and did so after a couple of corners. Lap one had Deniz Oncu, from P5, take the lead from Fenati with a risky overtaking manoeuvre which he executed brilliantly and this left Ayumu Sasaki P3 and Pedro Acosta P4. Fenati came back at Oncu but seemed to miss that Pedro Acosta was right next to him, and Acosta soon had the lead. Within another lap, Deniz Oncu pushed his way past Fenati with Pedro Acosta in close order.

Eighteen laps to go and Fenati had pushed past Oncu once again, with Pedro Acosta P3 and Sergio Garcia P4, looking menacing and controlled at the same time. During this lap Darryn Binder made a late and unacceptable and unnecessary move on Ayumu Sasaki, literally knocking him off his KTM and out of the race. Sasakisan has “Crazyboy” on the back of his helmet, maybe he should swap with Binder! There is talk of Binder going to MotoGP class, really? With 17 laps to go Deniz Oncu was once again in the lead, showing the form we all know he has, but have not seen often enough, although now that is changing and Deniz is where he should be in the class.

With 15 laps to go it was Deniz Oncu in the lead with Jaume Masia P2 and Pedro Acosta P3, a Red Bull KTM triple header showing the field the way with a lot of classy racing, these young riders showing maturity beyond their years, and creating an exciting race. We have come to expect no less from Moto3! Thirteen laps to go and Fenati took the lead briefly, but soon the Red Bull boys were all over him again, and Deniz Oncu was back in front, with Masia and Acosta in close formation, and that was how it stayed for another five laps, with the exception of Sergio Garcia who had made an entrance after seemingly stalking the lead group.

Four laps to go and It was Deniz Oncu still in the lead, and looking set for his first GP win, but he had Pedro Acosta on his tail and Sergio Garcia close by, so the pressure was on. Two laps to go and Oncu was in the lead, but only just as he had Acosta all over him and now Sergio Garcia, and suddenly Dennis Foggia in the mix. The last lap was an adrenalin pumping moment as Oncu was fighting for the race win with Sergio Garcia now on his back, having sliced past Acosta who now had Foggia to contend with. Sergio forced his way past Deniz in a fair but strong move and then held a defensive line taking the victory for the third time this season, Foggia took a last corner place from Acosta for third.

The Result:

Sergio Garcia, Santander Consumer GASGAS P1. Deniz Oncu, Red Bull KTM Tech 3 P2. Dennis Foggia Leopard Racing P3. Pedro Acosta P4.

It was a shame for Deniz Oncu, as he held the lead for much of the race, but he rode so well he must be satisfied he did his very best. He stopped on track, to congratulate Sergio Garcia who had been there all the time and was fantastic at the finish. Pedro Acosta consolidates his lead in the championship, a good day’s work in the office. Clean classy racing and sportsmanship from these young guns, the future looks bright.
