Qualifying:

Remy Gardner was pole sitter in Austria, with Ai Ogura P2 and Marco Bezzecchi P3. Remy’s teammate and usual front-row man, Raul Fernandez was P4.

The Race:

Remy Gardner flew off the line at the start and seemed to have the edge on the others but, soon it was Marco Bezzecchi who did the edging and took the lead with Raul Fernandez taking advantage of the wide line from Gardner to go P2 with Remy P3. Lap 2 had Bezzecchi take the lead and pull a slight gap over Raul and Remy, who must have known that Marco had been quick all weekend, and letting him gap them was to be avoided.

Twenty-two laps to go, Bezzecchi was holding off Remy in P2, now Aron Canet P3 and Raul P4, but you could throw a blanket over them at this stage, as this group of four had slightly gapped Ai Ogura and Sam Lowes in P5 and 6. Nineteen laps to go, Bezzecchi had a bit of a wobble, allowing Remy and Aron Canet to slip past, Canet now taking the lead, but not for long as one lap later Remy undercut Canet and took the lead. Raul Fernandez went wide and off the track to re-join in seventh place, perhaps a lapse in concentration for the usually on fire Spanish rider, had all the contract shenanigans got to him over the weekend? Remy was strong in the lead with Aron Canet P2, Bezzecchi P3, a feisty looking Ai Ogura P4, Sam Lowes P5, Augusto Fernandez P6 and Raul trying to haul it back from P7.

Remy Gardner held station in the lead for eleven laps until, with 7 laps to go Marco Bezzecchi made his move a slipped past Gardner for P1, Remy now P2 and an impressive Ai Ogura P3. Six laps to go and it was all happening as Remy went wide and into the gravel, but managing to keep it upright, this allowed Ai Ogura to take P2, Canet P3, Augusto Fernandez P4 and Remy now down at P5. Then a track limits penalty came up for Ogura, he would have to do a long lap and thus compromise if not ruin his chances of a podium, very frustrating as he had been riding so well and so fast.

The Result:

Last lap and it was Marco Bezzecchi holding the lead and so as they came across the line it was winner Marco Bezzecchi, SKY Racing Team VR46 Kalex, P2 Aron Canet, Aspar Team Moto2 Boscoscuro, P3 Augusto Fernandez Elf Marc VDS Racing Team, Kalex. Ai was P5 and Raul P7.
