Qualifying

Qualifying turned out the recent usual suspects with Raul Fernandez on pole, Fabio DiGiannantonio P2 and Raul’s Red Bull KTM Ajo teammate Remy Gardner, P3.

The Race

In recent races, it has been the Raul and Remy show, and it looked set for the Red Bull KTM Ajo boys to once again dominate, as they screamed off the line. On the first lap, it was Raul Fernandez in the lead with Remy P2 and Xavi Vierge P3. Simone Corsi did not even make one lap crashing out on his own from the back of the grid, his bike tumbling multiple times, probably only good for scrap.

Lap 2 and 28 to go and Remy Gardner slipped under Raul and started to show the way, with Fernandez hanging in close to his teammate. By lap 4 Remy and Raul had a 3.8 second gap over third placed Xavi Vierge, incredible! Lap 5 and disaster as Raul Fernandez lost the front and slid out, hitting the kitty litter, quick reactions saw him try to dig the bike out for a re-start but it was to no avail. Visible frustration from Raul as he punched the gravel and from his team and kid brother Adrian back in the box. This left Remy with a huge gap over P2 man Aron Canet and Xavi Vierge, P3.

Twenty laps to go and Augusto Fernandez and Jake Dixon had a bit of a coming together, leaving Fernandez ditched in the gravel and Jake doing some moto X through it, only to re-join last on track. Meanwhile, Remy had consolidated his lead with Aron Canet P2 and Marco Bezzecchi P3.

The Result

It was a long lonely but well controlled race for Remy Gardner as he took the chequered flag for the win on his Red Bull KTM Ajo Kalex machine. P2 went to Aron Canet, Aspar Team Moto2 and P3 Marco Bezzecchi, Sky Racing Team VR46. In the last lap incredulous though it may seem there were three crashes with Xavi Vierge, Joe Roberts and Ai Ogura all dropping their bikes, and in total eight riders did not finish the race.

Remy Gardner now has 164 points over Raul Fernandez’s 128 in the World Championship, Raul is angry, but the rookie has learnt a lesson and he will be after Remy for sure. See you in Assen!
